India Data Law is a free reference for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025. It exists because almost everything published about this law is published by companies that sell compliance services.

What this site does

It records what is in force on any given day. It names the government document behind every statement it makes. It says plainly when something has not been notified, has not been appointed or has not been decided, because those absences are the most useful facts in this subject and almost nobody publishes them.

What this site does not do

It sells nothing. It carries no advertising. It takes no sponsorship and accepts no paid placement. It does not give legal advice, and nothing on it is legal advice. It runs no tracker and no analytics tag that identifies a reader. It collects no email addresses and sends no email.

Who writes it

India Data Law is written by one person who works in this field in India. The publication is named and its operator is not. That is a deliberate choice and it has a cost: a reader cannot weigh the author's credentials.

The site answers that cost the only honest way available to it, which is to make every statement checkable. Every claim names its source. Every source carries a link or a citation. A reader can open the document and disagree.

How it is funded

It is not. The domain and the hosting cost about one thousand rupees a year and the author pays for them.

Corrections

The author fixes an error on the page. The page then shows the date of the correction and what was changed. If something here is wrong, write to editor@indiadatalaw.org. A correction is made whether or not the reader who sent it wants to be named.
